Update IonCube to v4 on a Linux Server

This is a helpful tutorial for updating the Ioncube loader for a dedicated server. At the moment, EasyApache only provides update support for Ioncube 3.3.20, but this will help you update the Ioncube loader to the latest version of 4.0.8 which was released on April 19, 2011. The main reason to apply this update is to take advantage of the updated software and provide support for any scripts that need the latest Ioncube loaders installed.

1. Log into your server via SSH using the root account, then execute the following command:

wget http://allomani.com/ioncube_installer.sh

2. Now, execute the next command:

chmod +x ioncube_installer.sh

3. Finally, execute this command and wait until the process is complete.

This update script was developed by Allomani Web Services.

Simple .htaccess www-redirect

If you are looking for a simple way to redirect the non-www version of your domain name to the www-version, then this .htaccess example may be of help to you!

Requirements: 1.) You will need to be on a Linux web hosting account. 2.) You will need the ability to upload a .htaccess file into the root folder of your website. 3.) You will need a way to upload this file to your website’s root folder, such as an FTP Program of cPanel File Manager.

Special Notes: 1.) This redirect method shouldn’t be used for Joomla or Magento websites. Joomla has a canonicalization plugin that works great for this type of redirect. Additionally, Magento allows this to be setup in the “System > Configuration / Web / Unsecure / Base URL” area of the administration.

1.) Create a new file and name it “.htaccess” without the quotes.
2.) Edit the .htaccess file in WordPad, Notepad, or Dreamweaver.
3.) Paste the following code into the file.

RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^yourdomainname.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.yourdomainname.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

4.) Rename the two references to “yourdomainname.com” with your actual domain name.
5.) Save the file
6.) Upload the file to the root directory* of your website.

* The root directory is typically /public_html. However, if you have a subdomain or addon domain name that you need to apply this redirect method to then you will need to load it into that folder, such as /public_html/yourseconddomainname.com/.

Category/Product Names with & instead of &

If your Magento website incorrectly displays HTML entities in category and product names, such as the ampersand showing as & instead of &, then this post will help you out!

To fix this issue in product names, simply go to Catalog > Attributes > Manage Attributes in the administration area. Now, on this page, find and edit the attribute called Name. In the edit page, set the value of “Allow HTML-tags on Front-end” to “Yes.” This will fix the issue for product names, but make sure you clear your Magento cache before verifying it worked!

To fix this issue for your category names, you will need to edit a file in your design folder. Please open and prepare to edit the following file: /app/design/frontend/default/yourdesignname/template/catalog/category/view.phtml

In that file, please replace the following code:
echo $_helper->categoryAttribute($_category, $this->htmlEscape($this->getCurrentCategory()->getName()), 'name');
with this code:
echo $_helper->categoryAttribute($_category, $this->getCurrentCategory()->getName(), 'name');
and then replace the file on your hosting account. You shouldn’t have to empty the Magento cache if you are only editing a phtml file, but it wouldn’t hurt to empty it anyway.

That is it – you should be all set to go!
